I hate baths!

Posted by on

I was recently asked if I ever ‘turn my brain off’. I awkwardly laughed and dismissed the conversation, not realizing at that moment that this harmless joke was actually something I’ve been struggling with my whole life.

It’s not that I don’t want to turn my brain off, it’s that I can’t! I leave a notebook beside my bed and text myself on casual walks to class because I’m always thinking- about things that scare me, things I want to accomplish, how I feel in that moment or just the fact that I think popcorn and peanut butter sound like the most delicious combination.

Not being able to ever stop thinking is probably a large reason as to why I hate baths so much. For some people, baths are an escape from reality and helps calm their souls. But for me, it’s an opportunity to think more than I already do- which is A LOT! Believe me when I say that I’ve always wanted to hop on that bath bandwagon, but whenever I tried I would end up sitting there feeling extra hot and stuffy and just think. I know what you’re probably thinking… why don’t you bring a book? How about watching your favourite show? Yeah, I tried all of that- it still didn’t help with the fact that I was in a secluded space and left alone with my thoughts.

OH NO, a girl who doesn’t like baths? How do I relax and take time to myself? Well I have a lot of ways but I want to share with you one of my favourites – essential oils. For me, keeping busy is the best way to cope with my anxiety and I find that essential oils help make this possible. Different blends and application techniques target exactly what I need to get through my to do lists. Here are my 3 favourites and how I use them:

  • Lavender
  • Purpose: I use lavender to calm me down, help me sleep or even with motion sickness!
How to Use: I love to drop 3-4 drops into my diffuser after a super long day, rubbing it on the bottoms of my feet and combining a few drops with water into a spray bottle and spraying it on my pillow before I go to sleep.

  • Peppermint
  • Purpose: Headaches, Congestion, Period Cramps
How to Use: Putting a few drops in my hands, rubbing them together and sniffing them does wonders! It is also effective if you rub some into your temples, forehead and wrists when you have a headache. For you bath lovers, a couple drops is said to be the perfect kind of aromatherapy!

  • Panaway- this is a combination of wintergreen, helichrysum, clove & peppermint
  • Purpose:  Period Cramps, Post workout and bruising
How to Use: I am a big fan of working out, but that often leaves me sore and with bruises! I topically apply this oil to the targeted area for quick results. For those dreaded period cramps, I combine this oil with a carrier oil like coconut oil and massage it into my abdomen.

I could probably go on about where to buy oils, how to know if they are of good quality and more sophisticated combinations for specific uses- but I’ll save that for another day!

Do I have any oily pals out there? I’d love to hear about your favourites. New to oils? Let’s chat!

    Stay positive my dudes,
